Md Shadab Alam

Md Shadab Alam is a PhD researcher at the Department of Industrial Design, Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), and will join KPMG Netherlands as an AI Engineer in January 2027. Shadab's research uses computer vision and machine learning to understand how pedestrians and other road users behave in real-world traffic around the globe. A central part of this work is CROWD, a dataset of over 35,000 hours of dashcam footage from 238 countries and territories. Shadab also explores how large language models and generative AI can support human factors research for automated vehicles.

Shadab holds an MSc in Robotics and AI from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, with a thesis on deep reinforcement learning controllers for autonomous ships, and a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Jamia Millia Islamia. In 2026 Shadab was a visiting researcher in computer vision and machine learning at EPFL. Shadab has also applied machine learning in industry, at Nikah Forever and Guinea Motors. The research has appeared in venues such as AutoUI, Ocean Engineering and Machine Vision and Applications. Shadab served as web chair of IEEE RO-MAN 2025 and reviews for NeurIPS, IEEE RO-MAN and AutoUI.
